LET’S start with an announcement.
The WAA will be holding a memorial event in honour of our former secretary Frank Lythgoe.
As many of you will no doubt remember, Frank held this position for over 40 years and throughout his tenure oversaw and participated in an immense amount of work/development for WAA.
Sadly, in February he passed away, peacefully and surrounded by his closest family.
Every day we see the results and benefits of his hard work and commitment to WAA.
To remember Frank, on September 14, the River Mersey match will be called “Frank Lythgoe’s Memorial Match”. Put this date in your diary.
The match will be open to all members, and winners of the match will be rewarded with amazing prizes; kindly provided by GURU. More information to follow next week, but I just wanted to give you all plenty of notice. This will be a good one, so don’t miss out!
Now, the sun is shining again, and temperatures are reaching near 30C. Plenty of reasons to get yourself out on the bank and fishing - but also unfortunately ideal conditions for beasties and pox to be targeting our fish.
As always, try your best to practice ‘Check, Clean, Dry’, a great way of stopping the spread of many diseases including KHV (which is still active). I have not heard of any newly developed cases - which is fantastic news. Thank you all for doing your bit and helping keep our waters safe!
Onto some actual results now.
Dean Loftus returned to Woodshaw Reservoir chasing its famous crucians. He used his secret bait (which he makes himself on the day) and after only a short wait he started to see some action.
Dean landed four crucians and a net full of roach. He said it was a bit of a slower session overall, but still a very enjoyable one.
I can’t say I am very successful when it comes to catching these elusive crucians, I think they must know how badly I want to catch them… Well done again though Dean, really nice to see you on the banks once more.
Simon Oldfield and Warrington Anglers Association legend Martin James had a very enjoyable morning session at Weaver Navigation.
Both anglers opted to fish the pole with chopped worm on the hook. A great method on this beautiful venue in my humble opinion.
With bites coming in thick and fast, Martin decided to try a different tact and started catching on the drop four sections out with maggot on the hook. His net quickly filled with roach, perch, and small skimmers.

Simon only fished with chopped-worm over a small amount of ground bait. He was catching perch down the edge, with a few roach and skimmers.
Martin won the friendly competition in terms of overall weight and numbers. Simon meanwhile may have had fewer fish, but overall a better stamp.

Both anglers left very satisfied with their results and enjoyed every minute of it.
Derek Watts enjoyed an afternoon fishing from one of the new pegs at Cicely Mill Lake. His wait was quickly rewarded with a stunning 8lb 9oz pristine-looking common carp. Great catch Derek. He used float and double red maggot on the hook throughout his short session.
Our Dynamic Duo Dave Gardner and Ken Hewitt also ventured to Cicely Mill this week. Dave fished a carpark peg, while Ken settled on the right-hand side of the lake.
A resident swan kept them company throughout their morning session, keeping them on their toes. A role reversal this week, as Ken caught three small perch while Dave blanked. Better luck next time gents.
The river level at match start was 3.5 metres. The river was low, slow and gin clear. 31 anglers competed in the match. Pole was the favourite method on the day.
Harry Billing took the top spot for his second win of the season. He drew peg 20 and fished the pole at 11 metres catching a net full of roach, dace, perch and a bream of around 4lbs for a clear winning weight of 18lbs 12ozs 0drs.
In second place, fishing peg 21, was Nick Burrows. Nick also fished pole at 11 metres, catching plenty of roach, dace and perch for a great weight of 11-11-0.
In third place was last week's winner Lewis Whiteman. He fished peg 52 and achieved a solid weight of 10-12-0.
Results:
1. H. Billing 18-12-0
1. N. Burrows 11-11-0
3. L. Whiteman 10-12-0
Well done everyone.

Jimmy Byrne’s report from the Disabled and Over 60s match at Grappenhall:
Really nice weights this week. First four places all had bonus fish, either a bream or a skimmer. Caster was favoured by the bream while roach were tempted by bread and pinkie. Well done to everyone.
Results:
1. N. Grindley 9-7-0
2. A. Brown 5-11-9
3. P. Jones 5-6-0
Next match at Farm Road, Trent and Mersey.
As ever, send your catch reports to quartermaster@warrington-anglers.org.uk or message 07395 185026. Include a brief description and method used with a picture or two where possible.
